A dog isn’t just for Xmas and LEGO isn’t just for boys. Not now that LEGO have launched LEGO Friends – their new girly themed product line where girls can build, create, remodel and redecorate!
The LEGO Friends are a group of 5 very different and very talented (and remarkably shapely) girls living in “Heartlake City”. Your girls (or boys – I’m totally for gender equality… sometimes) can build and expand their own Heartlake City as well as customise the dolls’ hair and fashion accessories. The best news, is that LEGO Friends pieces are all fully compatible with all LEGO bricks!
LEGO Friends is more about role-playing and imagination. Whereas the more traditional LEGO sets (skewed more towards boys) are more about construction (and then play fighting).
Interestingly, some very vocal feminists (in the US of course!) have been stirring up a bit of controversy around LEGO Friends, harping on about how sexist this line is and how creating a range of products focused around beauty salons, shopping, fashion, hair, etc is ‘degrading to girls’. I mean, really! Sure it plays on the stereotype – it’s a bit “girly” and a bit pink – but please, it’s only LEGO. Get over it. Go back to complaining about Mr Grey.
