Memories of school

According to Babycentre, by the “end of this year”, my 5 yr old may “Test the limits of his independence — sometimes to the point of being rude”. In that case, it would appear that both my children are ahead of the curve, developmentally. So proud.

As parents, we get a little obsessed about how our kids are faring up to their peers. Who’s walking first? Who scored their first goal? Who can read better? Ultimately it doesn’t matter, but it doesn’t stop parents from playing the game… sometimes with conveniently selective memories. Each day my kids come back from school with stunning artwork, insightful essays, and completed worksheets that scream “geniuses in the making” (did I mention that my boys are almost 5 1/2yrs?). But what to do with it all?
