A child can never have too many books and the Scanimation range of picture books by Rufus Butler Sede (inventor, film-maker, artist) are genius! After creating some really clever technology called, err, Scanimation, Rufus found a way to make pictures move on a page without any fancy micro chips. I won’t bore you with the specifics of the technology (mainly because I don’t understand it), but in a nutshell, children love seeing objects and animals “magically” slither, jump and hop across the page as they read.Targeted at kids 3yrs plus (and adults of any age!), the first book (Gallop!) was released in 2007 and proved so popular that they released Kick! the following year, followed by Waddle! in 2009 and most recently, a special Star Wars book earlier this year. Workman Publishing are due to release the Wizard Of Oz Scanimation in Spring 2011 in the States – no word on UK release date yet but we’ll keep you posted.
In addition to these amazing books are Scanimation 5″ x 7″ greeting cards from the Gallop! range – they make really original birthday cards.
So if you’re looking for a great book for your child or as a present, check out Scanimation.
