Babymoons are the must-have “last” holidays for expectant parents before their child is born. It’s the last chance for these expectant parents to totally chill and relax before being being immersed into the world of newborns. We’ve caught up with Adam Spawton-Rice, travel writer for easyJet holidays  (and a part-time uncle) to pick his brains on great destinations for the perfect Babymoon and this is what he said:

Whether you’re au fait with motherhood or an expectant Mum, we all understand that the arrival of a new baby spells the end for spontaneous getaways. A Babymoon offers couples the chance to enjoy some quality time together before baby arrives. So whether you’re expecting your first, or even looking to get that way, check out this list of spa hotels with everything needed to make that last child-free getaway the perfect, peaceful treat. Happy Babymooning!

About the Babymoon

Travelling during the second trimester of your pregnancy is viewed as safe for most women; many doctors will advise taking out comprehensive travel insurance, and that you bring antenatal notes with you. The Babymoon has its origins in the have-it-all culture of the noughties, and according to those in the know, the key to a good Babymoon is having-it-all…in one place.

El Gouna, Egypt

Egyptians are extremely family-orientated, meaning you’ll be treated like a queen on a Baybmoon to El Gouna. Hotel staff will pamper and spoil pregnant guests on Egypt holidays with delicious food and excellent service. If you’re lucky, you might spot the area’s famous dolphins – a good omen if there ever were one.

Where to Stay

Set amongst El Gouna’s network of man-made lagoons, the Moevenpick Spa & Resort offers guests every opportunity to relax. Explore as much or as little as you like; take a stroll down the hotel’s private beach, the Marina or the nearby town for shopping. From your king size bed you’ll have views of the hotel’s pretty Mediterranean gardens, the ocean or one of the area’s famous lagoons. The onsite Angsana Spa offers head to toe treatments that will have you and baby in holiday heaven.

Vilamoura, Algarve

Known as the spiritual home of golf, a holiday to Vilamoura isn’t just for future dads to enjoy. Boasting trendy boutiques, fine dining and a backdrop of rolling Algarvian countryside, this is the perfect place to have a sophisticated holiday before baby makes three. Try a meal at the Michelin-starred Restaurant, Willie’s, which fuses local food with international flavours, before heading off on a romantic boat trip to explore the gorgeous coastline.

Where to Stay

The Tivoli Marina Victoria Hotel is an oasis of calm which also has the exceptional Angsana Spa for mothers-to-be. The Rhythmic Massage, recommended for expectant mums, nurtures your skin and enriches it with a specially applied Vitamin E treatment. Afterwards, why not try the Tender Feet pampering session to get you feeling your best? Following on from your relaxing treatments, head to the hotel’s Puro Beach Club with your partner and chill out in nomadic tents whilst DJs play ambient music. Finally, a 12-hole putting green will keep the Dad-to-be on his toes whilst Mum gets some retail therapy time.

Golf del Sur, Tenerife

Before the arrival of the little one, head to the popular family holiday island of Tenerife but stay in a resort more accustomed to welcoming couples and mature travellers. The Golf Del Sur on the south-eastern coast combines the best of both sides of this island; close to the resorts that make this island a go-to holiday destination for many, yet secluded enough to make sure you have a memorable last break as a child-free couple.

Where to stay

Before the baby arrives, treat yourselves to one last luxury blowout at the Sandos San Blas hotel. Elegant in every respect, this top of the range resort not only has rooms fitted to the highest standards, but is also home to a wonderful array of luxury amenities. With eight swimming pools, two gourmet restaurants (both with sea views), a private sailing lake and a full range of spa facilities, there’s plenty to ensure you have one last relaxing break together.

Playa Blanca, Lanzarote

Lanzarote is the perfect place to get away from it all – the volcanic landscape makes it feel like you could be on the moon rather than a four hour flight away from the UK. The weather is warm without being too hot, and you will be able to find every kind of restaurant you can imagine, perfect for those crazy cravings.

Where to Stay

The Dream Gran Castillo Hotel comes with its very own Wellness and Thalassotherapy Centre, an exclusive spa for hotel guests. Relaxation, revitalisation and rejuvenation are just some of the benefits you will gain from a visit. The darkened aromatherapy and thermal water rooms, as well as facial and body treatments are the perfect way to pamper you and your bump. You will leave feeling serene and ready to face the world. Stay in one of the Senior Suites with sea views for uncompromised comfort and attention to detail.

Puerto Pollensa, Majorca

Majorca is famous for welcoming families, but with a little more exploration couples can find their own slice of paradise on this beautiful Balearic island With a short flight time of just two and a half hours, Majorca is ideal for a short Babymoon break. The coastal town of Puerto Pollensa offers couples the chance to sample the very best of rural Mallorca. Within a picturesque setting, the romantic cobbled streets and beautiful beaches of Puerto Pollensa provide the ideal exotic backdrop for a Babymoon to remember.

Where to Stay

At the Duva Pollensa Aparthotel couples can enjoy the very best of Puerto Pollensa. The hotel offers detached apartments for privacy, a spa and sauna centre for much needed relaxationt and finally, its town centre location makes the most of Puerto Pollensa’s vibrant restaurant scene.

Sliema, Malta

The cosmopolitan resort of Sliema is the perfect destination for a last holiday together; take advantage of the excellent spas, laze by the warm sea or explore the enchanting Comino Island.

Where to Stay

For an unforgettable Babymoon in Malta, stay at the luxurious 5-star Hotel Fortina Spa Resort. This lavish hotel offers an excellent program of wonderful pregnancy treatments. Have a Yummy Tummy facial – a relaxing and soothing treatment that helps to improve elasticity of your stomach’s skin, or the Mellow Mama massage focuses on the lower back muscles which carry your beautiful bump. Your other-half can take advantage of the five swimming pools and fitness centre before you both enjoy a delicious evening meal in the tropical gardens. Choose to stay in one of the Spa Rooms which have a therapeutic bath and steam showers – pure bliss.

About Us

At Cool Mum Hunting we're all long-term shopping obsessives. We're also mums who aren't ready to raise the white flag on style. That means these days our attention has switched from 'It' bags to nappy bags, Jimmy Choos to Baby Blochs and exclusive members' bars to restaurants that don't throw you out when food's thrown on the floor.

We don't believe you have to give-up 'cool' just because you're a mum. But we also know you don't have as much time to stay 'on it' as you would like and that negotiating shops with a buggy takes a lot of the fun out of shopping.

What you really need is a PA, personal shopper, stylist and know-it-all best friend, all rolled into one. That's where we come in. We scour the world for the coolest, newest and best products, then we deliver this insider knowledge direct to your inbox, Monday to Friday.

So that's us, Cool Mum Hunting, the midwives of cool.
